Listening to David Lanz & Michael Jones - Canon in D Major
Taking 2 days MC for an ingrown toenail has certainly benefitted me. After doing a day shift on Kusu Island on sunday in lieu of my sunday night shift and reporting sick. I have had a grand total of 5 days rest thus far. I am seriously so enjoying this "one week break" from work. Another bonus to sign on as a police officer. 2 Day's MC or leave equals to 6 days off. However, you take leave for two day, it will be considered as three days. Probably a policy from preventing people from taking too much leave. Thank God. I've rested as long as any average NSmen spends in camp.
I neglected to mention that the doctor at the polyclinic most probably over prescribed too much medication for just a simple ingrown toenail. Not that it is so bad they the toenail has to be removed, but seriously, it doesn't warrant about 75 tablets to be finished in the due course of one week. Agreeable? I still remember previously, when I was down with the initial stages of dengue fever. The doctor I consulted gave me antibiotics so strong that the A & E doctor was shocked. I think as a doctor, its quite weird to study for 6 years just to prescribe tonnes of antibiotics to almost every patient with a cough, flue, sneeze et al.
University applications are going rather slowly. I plan to meet up with my admissions officer on tuesday to iron out the kinks in the application. Time is running out before I can send my application to Washington University in St. Louis. I'll send in my applications to New York University as well as Boston University after the WashU one has been submitted.I hope that I get in. But if I don't, then its ok with that I stay in singapore and do accountancy at NTU or SMU for that matter. Been hearing good things about SMU and the style of teaching, perhaps that university is for me, rather than too much of a chinese-speaking environment in NTU.
I can't go for the class dinner tomorrow. Nevermind. God is first priority. However, I think I can still make it for AC's open house tomorrow. Most probably go there, act blur and pose as a potential student while trying to grab some snap shots of the action taking place. There's a tradition behind this as well. Last year, quite a number of the current J4s in the army went back to ACJC to act as potential students who cam from either AC feeder secondary school. Even T-Squared, L-Squared, N-Dru, Prof Wang went back to pose as sec 4 students, with much success to the unknowing J1s who then showered the bunch of clowns with stickers, flowers and small gifts. I guess its an ego thing, an ego trip for guys to get attention from girls they don't know. But I'll do it for the sake of tradition. Hope no one recognises me. Though I doubt that's likely to happen. I just hope that I can get out of bed in the morning and not sleep till noon again.
I saw Lai Lin on the way back from the market today. I believe that most of the J3s will know her as the "girl with a mental problem" or "the girl who has the longest skirt in the school". The current batch of J2s might remember her as the girl who sang "There'll You'll Be" on teacher's day last year. For me, she was a girl who attended lectures as well as tutorials with me, as well as remedial classes for F Maths and she too was a CL B student. For a girl like her, who was born with mild cerebral palsy, I think making it to NUS school of comuting is an achievement worth heralding. After all, how many people with suffer from cerebral palsy even make it past primary school?
Its quite sad that people made fun of her all the time. Even some of the teacher's joined in the "fun" as well. I did mention that on rainy days in ACJC, you see lots of "interesting" things. For me, one of the "highlights" that my class would look out for would be Lai Lin wearing a BLUE CAP around campus whenever it rained. It really made her the butt of all jokes on rainy days. People would come up to me and ask "have you seen Lai Lin yet! She's wearing the blue cap again!". That's one bad thing about ACS Boys. Everyone seeks to find someone to ostracise and that happened to be her. Poor girl practically walked around a loner in campus all the days in school since she stepped into it.
People always made fun of her. I guess all her classmates save 1 didn't like her. People didn't even want to be associated with her, much lest talk to her. She only suddenly "skyrocketed" to fame after everyone heard her sing on teacher's day. I never knew how powerful and clear her voice was until that day. Its probably a gift from God. A trade off in one area is made up for in another area. If I'm not wrong, she sings for getai shows as well and earns big bucks as a part time singer. Life is so unfair, yet so fair at times. And as for that one girl who made friends with her. That girl too was a very devoted Christian who lived her life for Jesus both in character as well as in studies. Christians should be the most loving people around, since our's is a God of Love and He has instructed us to love (1 Cor 13). Yet I don't find myself being as loving as I should be. I have to change my personality, as well as my character. To be more loving or at least kind and caring.
Well, there's cellgroup later and I'm looking forward to it. Nothing excites me more than church activities. Its like, I get worn down slowly as the week goes through. But finally at church service or cellgroup, I can "recharge" myself spiritually and go on again. Will be meeting Merf for dinner at KFC. How I have a craving for deep fried chicken. I gained 1/2 a kg over the last 2 weeks and now weigh in at 78 kg. I walked into ACJC on march 2001 weighing just 58 kg. 2 and a 1/2 years later I have gained 20 kilos. And they said that during my tenure in NS I'd lose like 25% by body weight.
One last note to all those who use blogger to blog. Its a good practise to actually right click and select "select all" and then to right click and select "copy" before you press the post button. Lest you lose you posts. If it actually happens, you can always just restart blogger and use the "paste" function. It prevents posts from getting lost. Try it, it only take 5 seconds, but could save you 5 minutes taken to blog the post again.
