Listening to NFI - Life is Beautiful (The DBS Ad Song!)

Hello! Its good to hear from you again! Anyway, I think layout-wise, what is simple is true. I chose the light yellow background initially because I thought that white as a background is too harsh on the eyes for reading purposes. But then again, it looks ok to me with this layout.
Ok Ok, the truth is, I suck at layouts, I'm not as artistically creative as I wish I could be, so I'll have to stick to simple layouts void of any smattering of complexity.
Well, everyone loves sunsets. You can see very nice sunsets from Changi Coastal Road, somewhere the area behind Changi Airport. Not sure if its closed off now, but yeah, that's where we usually try to position our boat to capture the last parts of the day's worth of sunshine.
Sunrises are best caught off Sentosa. Nothing there's to block your view for about 20 nautical miles wide. You can walk across the narrowest parts of the extreme edge of the central beach to those water breakers and get a really nice view from there.
Charles once told me. I won't forget this, "When you look at the sky, God puts on a show". True enough, like no two snow crystals are the same. No two clouds are alike either. At least we can say that Singapore has nice blue skies to call its own almost everyday, unlike in London, New York or even San Francisco.
There are some parts of the open sea where the water is blue and not green, but usualy these are very far out, probably 10 nautical miles from the shoreline, in international waters. Only the navy get to enjoy all of that.
patrol
I was on a 2nd Gen boat for the first time. Its not as fast, speed wise, as compared to 3rd Gen boats, but at least the air con isn't so FREAKING COLD! However, its noticeably rocks alot more than a 3rd Gen craft, so it takes some time to get used to.
I had one to one steering lessons from my first gunner. 2nd Gen boats have more authentic styled "wheelhouse" steering as opposed to the 3rd Gen's "steering wheel" that comes equipped with power steering. For a 2nd Gen, you have to exert quite a bit of force to turn the wheel. But its fun.
I got to do patrol with SI Norman. So on his tour of patrol, we can visit the CITY! Its really fun trying to navigate the boat in darkness, which was my first time as well, all the way to Clifford Pier to take a look at all the nice buildings of the CITY. Have to be careful though because all these small little passenger craft based at Clifford Pier very often do not obey shipping rules and just go here and there without much due regard to safety.
Other than that, it was a great struggle just trying to stay awake. I don't understand when I can normally last 18 hours from the time I wake up, which was 10a.m yesterday. I somehow start to just fall asleep and get tremendously drowsy by the time its just 9 or so. Coast Guard is really boring, you fight extreme fatigue and tiredness than other dangers. Worst that is that you can't fall asleep at the wheel, lest you be hit by a container vessel that can't see you. We are like so small as compared to a normal sized container vessel. Langah for sure die one.
Just managed to do my tour of duty, somehow last till about 5a.m this morning.
And I woke up to a damn painful cramp in my left leg at about 8a.m. Worst, couldn't get out of bed properly since SI Norman was involved in a high speed chase for some Indonesian craft that had illegally entered our waters. Wah its damn pain man, had to limp about in the boat for about an hour or so before it became a little better.
Other than that, it was just a normal, peaceful and quiet tour of duty. On the next shift I'm stuck with sentry duty. SHIT MAN! I HATE SENTRY DUTY! I'll come back from it blasting the police force and gahmen. I get damn pissed after a tour of sentry duty. Everyone there is just waiting to fuck you if you make one small mistake. I think all the sentries should just go AWOL and let the base get bombed lah. We do so much work for them and they don't appreciate it at all.
It really sucks doing sentry duty. You have to do tonnes of things that are not at all related to the duty. Ever heard of having to accept calls from people to BOOK parking lots in the base? Nonsense man! Guard duty also have to do this PR bullshit with senior officers from other places that "want to play rank". The sentry duty really sucks man. They treat you so badly, just lying in wait to charge in court for being "negligent" somehow and then don't even compliment you for a job well done. A highly under appreciated job that is critical to the safety of the base.
They say, don't stab the goose that lays the golden eggs. Sentries are laying the golden eggs of security for the base and they get stabbed in doing so. Screwed up administration I tell you. Complain to Geoffrey's Father! Get the CP to screw all the stuck up senior officers in the base!
burnt
My day is burnt tomorrow because of some stupid in service shit. Go to Tracom to listen to a couple of boring lectures. Probably a briefing for a WITS project (Waste Individual Time System or We Idle Together Session). It'll be a sort of a reunion for all the people in the other bases as well. I'll probably get to see Edmund, Nico and Adrian at least. Perhaps a lunch or something and then catch up on how miserable coast guard experiences doing sentry duty!
dilemma
I don't know whether I should go to the airport tonight to send off my dearest friend, Rev. Charles Ng. He is going to England to study History at OXFORD. I believe that my other good friend from Barker, as wells as Charle's own classmate, Timothy Tay, will be heading off with Charles as well on the same flight. Both of them will major in History at Oxford. One on a PSC Overseas Merit Scholarship, the other on MOE Teaching Scholarship.
Got updates that the former Choir President, Jackie, the guy who was second place to Winston in ACSI during the O levels, as well as the class monitor of 2SA4 and the Economics Guru, is now majoring in Economics at Wesleyan University on a BOND FREE SCHOLARSHIP. Another guy who is super on for God as well. And he's super smart. 10A1s and a B3 for his O's. That's like just short of Winston's 10A1 and 1A2 by a couple of marks!
I don't know, since there's a Christian Conference at church tonight. Should I get into the queue and rush for seats again, or should I just go the airport and send off a beloved Christian Brother? Charles already told everyone not to send him off. But apparently, everyone's bucking the trend by going, no matter what. I mean, not many people will go to airport at 11 at night to send a friend off right? Especially if you've got no transport and a taxi ride after midnight there has a 50% surcharge PLUS airport surcharge.
On one hand, I've promised to never skip another Christian conference. Then on the other hand, I won't get to see a brother in Christ who has supported me greatly over the last 2 years for another 2 years! ARGH!
But whatever it is. One thing is for sure. The day Rev. Charles Ng goes into full time ministry. I will quit everything and join his ministry and work for him for free for Christ. Christians like him are so rare on the earth, I could pick out a few million people and only find another one like him.
PWD woes
The PWD is digging up the roads outside my house - AGAIN! And this time its going to last till 31 of OCT! Given that gahmen projects usually finish LATE, lets leave it as mid november. This gahmen organisation really lives up to its name - PURPOSELY WANT to DIG. Dig and Dig and Dig and Dig and Dig. They've put so many layers of asphalt on the road leading up to my house that they've had to construct a whole new set of pavements and sidewalks!
Why can't they just be more efficient and dig it up ONCE, lay all the necessary cables and then cover it up for good? For perhaps a year before the next "big dig" instead of having to dig and cover, dig and cover non stop every single damn month? Worst part is when they start using the excavator mounted pneumatic drills to break up the road. It is SO NOISY can kill people. Not to mention the dust as well as the traffic jams created.
The LTA should just bar them from digging on the roads, seriously. Lay overhead cables better, less fuss, cheaper, no road congestion. Or at least the LTA should charge the PWD for every hour they stay on the site, to rush them to complete their projects faster instead of taking their own sweet time to continually disturb the entire estate!
