Listening to Hillsongs - Magnificent

Official Secrets Act: As a Policeman. As long as I don't go into specifics. Its not a secret. Its as simple as that. What constitutes an official secret? Oral Exam topics, Embargoed A-Level Exam Question Papers, Corporate Secrets, Trade Secrets, Patented Secrets. I don't mention whatever I know during my course of duty to be classified. Its very obvious what things are classified and what isn't. Stuff like sleeping, eating chatting on the boat. Moving around from area to area is no secret. As for things like the beacons, buoys, movement of patrols. Its it widely known by all those on the sea that that is our usual "patrol route". As for checking on boats, its no secret either as we also do check singapore registered boats. As far as police work is concerned. Given that I do not reveal intelligence information, classified information, restricted information, secret information as well as tip-offs and standby messages. I am totally free to say what I want to say here. Any policeman can go blog about his day of duty as long as he doesn't mention specifics like the person's name, age, gender, race and facts of the case. So for example. A division policeman who handles a case of say, suicide in Tampines can go ahead and blog about it. But he's not allowed to mention the age of the victim, gender, method of suicide, hanging technique, evidence of the case and follow up investigations.

For me its so much simpler. I don't handle suicides. Only pick up dead bodies from the sea. And that's no secret as well given that the papers are tipped off to publish details off the body if there is no match for a missing person's report. As for spot checking boats. I'm not mentioning the names of the master, names of the boats and the racial/ethnic composition of the crew. So there's no problem there again. Even if I told you I checked 20 boats on the harbour today. Most probably 15 of them are out of the our territorials' waters by the time I tell you. And we have like 1000 over vessels in our harbour at any one time. So then again, how can you tell? Its my life, seen through my eyes and perspectives. And as long as it does not compromise on the safety and integrity of classified information. I can write as freely as I want about it. If not then, I think it would be a breach of the OSA for army guys to share army stories with their buddies and girlfriends. Because technically, training can be considered to be "work on duty". There there, even our authorities are not so strict over these very low security compromising information that I write here with. I mean, who really cares if I move the boat at 14 knots or 40 knots right? We have the right of way as a government vessel and if necessary to take that speed. No questions asked.

Ya, I hoped I've clarified it enough. They don't train us in the law in Tracom for nothing. Besides, I've been writing about my work for about as long as my blog has existed. =) As a ground level officer, I receive "secrets" that are more or less widely known to the entire police force. It is unlike those intelligence persons working in the upper echelons of the government service like in the ISD, CNB, CID and PID. Especially for the anti-vice branch, gambling-suppression branch, secret societies branch, special branch, special investigation branch, serious crimes branch. All these, the entire teams handle very high level secrets like say, tip offs as well as time and date of raids as well as drugs sweep. Then, my "intelligence knowledge" is but a mere pitiance to these other departments in the police force.

replies

Ok, finally have some time to get out all these long deserved replies:

Joline: Oh, as for the part regarding liking girls. When I re-read it again, I find it SO SILLY. I sound like a little kid whining about nonsensical non-existent negligible things. Well, even if its my blog, it doesn't mean that I go around high and mighty and shove my opinions down other people's throat. I'm always open to other opinions as well as perspectives. Because being narrow minded is all but a lost. As I didn't really read through the entire "long comments tag" a few days ago, I can't really comment about what you said there. Yea, that's about it. And i tell you, I really like the way you blog? Cos it has like so much feeling and emotion to it? Its well written stuff. Its like the emotion is written into the language. Unlike yours, my blog is more of a typical old grave men style of speech.

mei:I've realised that it really isn't easy to be a great or wonderful testimony for God. In fact, it is very hard. The devil will try to discredit your character every step of the way. Well, we'll work towards that goal together that one day, people will look at our lives and conclude that God is real in us. Not that we'll be religious fanatics of sorts. But just people with plain great character that bear much fruit of the Spirit. Fruit takes a long long time to grow and mature. But as we toil in bitterness, one day, we'll taste the sweet fruits of our labour.

As for mails. I did get something from you and it really brightened up my day! I actually sent a reply via post yesterday - my first trip to the post office this year. Thanks mei. Its all the little things that we do that really bring people closer together over vast distances of space and time. God Bless you mei.

En:I really like your blog. Too bad I can't give out the URL since its an "official secret" of sorts! But I dig deep into all the poltical science essays there. I must admit, that even though 99% the world think of political science as a dry old mellow dull subject. I find it full of life, fusing together bits of history, literature, geography, economics and politics together. I certainly hope that I might be able to get a degree in that subject in the university. God willing.

Lurker One:Cool! I also "haunt" other people's blogs as well by using a pseudonym to write silly stuff in their comments boxes. Its fun stuff. Well, no need to apologies for being a "lurker" of sorts since the anonymous nature of the NET is known to bring out the alter-ego in some of us. I wouldn't consider my posts very reflective. Winston's are certainly a cut above alot of people's blogs in their honesty as well as reflections on life. But certainly thanks for reading and tagging along!

Gabriel:Ah! Its not my nature to take offence. Well, even if things are blatantly offensive at times. But I HAVE to look at things from YOUR perspective, because everyone is entitled to one. So I respect that as well as respect your stand on God and religion as well as faith. If not for your commentaries as well as posts, I really would not have understood more about the Brights. Simply because I was too lazy to register with the New York Times online to read that one particular article on the Brights.

As you said, its true, to each his own. But I would say that my faith isn't built on nothing. Its just, simply put secularly. Built on the belief (suppose its a debatable "truth" of sorts) that man called Jesus really rose from the dead and that His teachings are therefore "correct". So I wouldn't say that my faith isn't built on nothing. At the very least, there is some historical evidence to support the Bible, should you chose to discount it totally.

Yeah, its always a pleasure to see you, one of the few guys who can really write a good blog on the net commenting here. I'm not the sort to shut people out or shoo them off with unkind comments. Its not my nature. Cheers to freedom of speech and thought and a freedome of choice in chosing our convictions!

Church

I had a wonderful time at Church once again! Somehow, I overslept this afternoon and when I woke up, I realised that I would be SO LATE meeting up with the rest of the cellgroup for tonights combined cellgroup meeting in church. In a sense, it is a gathering of the various cellgroups in service together just to listen to one of our pastors preach. This is the first time they are doing it, so its rather novel.

I managed to reach church on time - Praise God! Normally, the jouney is around 1 and a 1/2 hours. But somehow, I managed to reach church in half the time! And its peak hour too! And the rest of the cellgroup was late and I was EARLY! Highly amusing I felt.

I wouldn't really call it a cellgroup meeting today since, with all the many different cellgroups combined together, we could form a small service that would rival the entire youth ministries and services of other churches in the country. About 300 of us all in all. I really miss those days when I was in a different church and "youth service" was more of a novelty at that period of time. Today's combined cellgroup meeting felt very much like a youth service of latter days. Lots of young people who love Jesus aplenty and are really keen to just come seek His Face.

Merf was on the bass for "service". There were no drums. So that's another "flashback" to times when the youth ministry in my older church could not even afford a drumset! It was all very acoustic guitar and piano. But what matters is not really the music, but the Heart of Worship.

God's presence really came down during worship and Pastor later preached about evangelism. It was a simple, short and sweet "service" of sorts and before I knew it. I was helping them stack up the chairs in the small hall and heading home.

Argh. I have to wake up early on my off day tomorrow to go to the base for some briefing. The travel time by bus is longer than the time spent in the briefing room. There goes half my day off! And then I have to do wretched sentry duty on Friday. Sigh.

Train so hard to be a policeman only to take care of a stupid gate at the base. Talk about lousy deployment of manpower.
