Joline Lim from 2SC10 or rather, should I say, "2SCA"? Interesting theory. Your Daniel Huang's Ex-gf? Perhaps he was too playful. But let's not speculate about such nonsensical things such as relationships.
Well, my class is just next to yours during assembly. And besides, my eye candy is in your class. Ya, of course I've seen you walking around in school. But since the SA and SC combi almost never meets until Econs lecture in LT2, I can safely say we are divided not by distance but by subjects.
It's a small world. I found it quite weird that if it were really Daniel Huang, it would be strange for him to be commenting on a weekday since he is theoretically supposed to be in the army - unless he was a company clerk of sorts.
I think in the SC Combi. The classes with the friendliest people have to be 2SC8, 2SC9 and 2SC10. The rest cannot make it. Whole time studying like crazy for the next 4 As. Besides, its true that Economics makes you a more balanced person as opposed to a complex mixing of three different sciences!
police force
As for Zi-Ming, not only does he have excellent grades for his A's, Boon Leong told me that he was the top officer cadet for fitness. Now that's a tough bargain. We're looking at a guy who could potentially be the Top OCS Graduate in January next year!
All I can say is that if you managed to join the Police Force with a basic degree, that is, 2nd Class Lower Honors and Below, you will automatically be given the rank of Inspector. Its the lowest of the Senior Officer Ranks. The rank hierarchy for Senior Officers goes as follows:
Inspector - Two Diamonds
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) - One Crest
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) - One Crest One Diamond
Superintendent of Police (SUPT) - One crest Two Diamonds
The highest for any normal degree holder is the rank of DSP(2). The pay ranges around 5 to 7K depending on performance, allowances and your unit. Starting pay for Inspector is about 2900 and for ASP 3300. Not inclusive of allowances.
You have to be in the Police Academy, or TRACOM, for 9 months worth of training. Don't worry though, all the instructors won't tekan you cos when you pass out, your rank will be 10 rugs higher than them! You'll get to wear all white, white polo shirt, white pants (long slacks for women) and white socks. And you get to stay in the "C-Course" Barracks. 4 persons to a room, Air-conditioned with computer with internet access as well as much better food and a barbeque pit for your own use!
The rank promotion criteria is somewhat like this:
Insp(1) - Insp(2) - ASP(1) - ASP(2) - DSP(1) - DSP(2). 6 increases in rank and pay, but only 3 promotions will be reflected on your shoulders.
If you get a degree with 2nd Class Upper Honors, You will automatically come in as ASP(1). You'll get a silver stripe around your police round cap (Its Peak Cap for the men and Round Cap for the Women). The silver stripe design gets increasingly nicer has your rank progresses. At ASP it is just a thick silver band, at DSP, it takes a more embroidered and flowery design. At the rank of DSP(1), your other headgear, such as jockey caps as well as helmet (if so need to be) will also carry a gold stripe.
The rank of Superintendent is reserved for Police Force Scholars or for those exceptionally outstanding senior police officers with at least 22 years of experience. The commander of Jurong police division has about 27 years experience, the commander of clementi police division has about 23 years experience.
The rank of ASP allows you to be the head in charge of a small section of a "not so important" part of the unit. Examples are Head of Training, Head of Planning. DSP allows you to hold greater power in posts such as Head Administration, Head Logistics. etc. Senior Police officers usually only touch on the paper work. The junior officers of rank Station Inspector and above usually handle the cases.
Ribbons will be awarded for 5 years of service, 12 years of service, 25 years of service and 30 years of service. Other ways to gain ribbons/medals are to be attached to United Nations PeaceKeeping Missions Overseas, oustanding service, etc. Ribbons worn on the left side of the uniform are the "normal" ones up to normal UN Peacekeeping duties. Medals awarded are worn on the right above the name tag for performances that far exceed the call of duty.
Other than that, you'll be a member of the SPOM, Senior Police Officer's Mess, its at Mount Pleasant Road, next to the Police Acadmey or TRACOM.
As for Scholars like Zi Ming, they will come in as DSP. And after one year of "orientation" be automatically promoted to Superintendent. Their ranks hierarchy is somewhat like this:
DSP - SUPT - DAC - AC - SAC - DCP - CP
Notice that they don't need to go through the "numbers". They can hop ranks directly without any need to be at "DSP(2)" or "SUPT(2)".
The last five ranks are usually not available to non-scholars. They are just basically Deputy Asst Commissioner, Asst Comissioner, Senior Asst Commissioner, Deputy Comissioner and of course Comissioner of Police. At any one time, there are only 14 people occupying these ranks.
So most probably for Zi Ming, He'll be DSP for 1 year, then SUPT for about 10 to 15 years - as Commander of a Division, Commder of a large unit such as Police Coast Guard, or one of the six Police Divisions. The Special Operations Command is commandeered by an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Who knows, 25 years down the road, he'll succeed Geoffrey's Father's successor!
ranks, insignia, power, fame and control
holding the helm and steering the bow
into and out of the windward and leeward
set and drift unaccounted for
say you avoid an 's' course
when you are not going straight?
