listening to Kathy Troccoli - Stubborn Love

the basic theory of driving...

Managed to catch forty winks on my bed. I had one sms on my phone. The thing about Samsung phones, is that apprently, if you don't read your sms after a few minutes, it will continue to bug you by ringing to sms tone over and over again. So basically, my sms tone was going off quite a few times and when I checked it, I had only ONE message.

Maybe I should consider keeping my phone on silent mode all the way. It has woken me up many a few times on the boat already whilst I was trying to gain my fitful sleep.

Mom dropped me off at the Queenstown Driving Center. I reached there early to find a pile of poly students STUDYING the book religiously! Its crazy man! We already study so much as a society, can we just relax a lttle? Mom chided me for "not studying for my basic theory". True. I had only read through it once and on that occassion - had fallen asleep.

Its so boring man. They ought to get more interesting writers rather than put everything down in point by point "lecture notes" format. Creativity right? 6th edition and its basically a reprint of the 5th addtion plus the sentence. "Those under the legal limit can be charged in court as well as have their license revoked for drink driving".

I skimmed through the test. They gave us 50 minutes and I finished everything in 20 minutes. I didn't check my answers. Basically, the test booklet which they gave us had all the answers "marked out" by previous test-takers already! What the hell man. The traffic police condones indirect "cheating" on the highway code!

I ran off after that. 2nd person to leave the exam hall. I loved the feeling man.

traffic jam

Everytime before I go to church, or meet up with people or go for some "significant event" I ALWAYS end up caught in a terrible traffic jam. Today I was supposed to rush down to MGS at 7, but I only arrived there at 7.20 no thanks to that miserable jam. I don't understand how can I always get stuck in a jam whenever I'm in a taxi rushing down to some important engagement! Really can't stand our "world class transport system". Don't brag about it when its like a clogged artery ok LTA?

And I had a new driver! He has a grand total of ONE day's driving experience. With the economy being so BAD lately, i notice that the taxi drivers are becoming less and less knowledgable about the directions they need to take. Can't blame them. Most of the people who are retrenched and don't have the "necessary qualifications" and "necessary work experience" really have no choice but to enter this "low barrier to entry" market. Apparently, my taxi driver holds two jobs. He drives a taxi in the day and markets ladies undergarments at night!

Nonsense man! I don't exactly care about the difference between a 32C and a 34B bra size you know? =P Although I know that many ACJC guys "just happen" to flip through a copy of seventeen during Economics Lectures with Chia Hee Lee! She once caught one guy reading HER WORLD in the lecture.

Talk about SNAGS man. Or should I put it aptly - METROSEXUAL.

Love MGS

I read on steph's blog that LOVE MGS was today. I didn't believe at first, so I smsed Aunty Ros about it. I fell asleep after that and that explains why my phone was constantly bugging me as above. It was on!

I was so sad at first! I knew the wretched basic theory test would be of no good to my "God Centered" schedule. A clash! Which was why I chose to leave the exam hall early without checking the paper. I'm more interesting in God than a stupid driving license!

I went for LOVE MGS last year as part of a "delegation" to represent the ACJC Christian Fellowship. At that time, I was wearing my white and blue. Blended in wonderfully with all the other "White and Blues" - MGS, ACS Barker, ACSI and other ACJC former MGS girls. Its an annual gathering of MGS girls, past and present to come together to Worship God. ACS is welcome very much too, although we're mostly the extras when the girls start shrieking over seeing their old friends.

NJC girl see RJC girl... *SHRIEK* *SHRIEK* *SHRIEK*... Runs together and -hugs-
[ACS Boys] Er..... OK........??? Hmmmmmmmmmm..........

Today I was in some civilian. I ought to have worn white and blue. Could only stick in one corner of the hallway as I didn't want to be seen by some of the current J2s. I noticed that even though some of the J2s are having prelims now, they were present, albeit in civilian as well. The only person I could recognise from my coner of the hall was Hoe Li Shan - the 2SC8 Student Councillor. That's about sums it up. Lots of MGS girls.

ms see

Ms See is the teacher in charge of Christian Fellowship in MGS. For as long as i can remember, she has been at the helm on the MGS side while the ACS side constantly changes! I didn't want to bump into her today because of a "long drawn out" history of me and my group of friends and our nonsense and her.

I walked into the hall after supposedly arriving late. It was about 7.20. First person I saw was HER! WAH LAU! SUAY SIA! She justed stared at me with those "what are you doing here" eyes and then talked to me. Quite formal a conversation. When there are MGS CF girls. Ms See will be there.

She's damn protective of her "flock". Most of the time, she seems to have this impression that "All ACS guys are horny bastards who are only out to get your virginity - SO BE VERY CAREFUL AROUND THEM!". Apparently, it is so effective that the MGS girls present avoid us like the plague - except for the few "more friendly" ones.

Think about it. Its Christian Fellowship! Not some run-of-the-mill party at millieu! People here are focused on God. We're not interested in looking out for girls. God first!

As much as I have my field days staring at girls in school and here and there. But when it comes to God. Its God first. I won't trade in God just to make friends with "another pretty girl". Its not even worth looking around during the service. Come before the Father with the right intentions! If I really wanted a social gathering, then just go the clubs and pubs and discos to go get a few superficial skin-deep ones!

praise and worship

As like previous years, there was a short dance before everything started. 4 dancers danced to Michael W. Smith's Draw Me Close. It was a slow motion one with more expression rather than action. Last year's dance was to Praise You by Shackles and the dance was rather quick and lively. Either way, its still good.

Praise was OK. Of course, nothing like what it is in church normally, but its the Heart of Worship that counts. Managed to sing many old favourites that were almost always sung exclusively at Barker Chapel. Songs like "My life is in You" really resonate to Sec 1 chapel in BRMC on Tuesdays!

Worship was a little bit more interesting. We sang How Great Thou Art. Its an OLD HYMN, just that they piped it through with a pop piano and rock drums and it was semi-charismatic for most people. That's like the 3 styles of worship that I've experienced most being "fused" together. It felt weird at first singing an old hymn with drums on it and as worship. But I loved it after a while. The Heart of Worship really counts here.

Praise and Worship was different from my church's Hillsongs type. I actually still miss doing things "Methodist Style" with a mix of old and new songs. I love to sing Hymns. They're beautifully evergreen tunes for the Lord. Pop and rock is fine with me on any accounts - but pop hymns are really a cut above the rest! =)

That's one thing about LOVE MGS. There's no fixed style of worship or type of songs. Everything is like so inter-denominational and I love it!

message

There was a short mime before the Pastor stood up to preach his message. Basically it was about the way Peter felt after Jesus was crucified and a dramatisation of his feelings then and there.

Apparently, I was the only one who packed my bible off to the meeting! Everyone else was just "listening" to the Pastor's message. The Pastor was Rev. Noel Goh from Covenant Community Methodist Church - the one on the 3rd floor of the "circular structure" that greets ACSians on their walk in.

He started by preaching a bit from last year's message. Before I knew it, the person next to me was sleeping. I don't understand why even Dad says that church is boring. Dad tells me he sleeps through the sermon and often wonders why I can sit through 2 hours worth of church.

Honestly, the Pastor was a little boring. He didn't speak so fast, or use any lively or colorful language to spice up his message. But other than that, the core content was there. He spoke about our fear of death and on our belief in the Miracle of the Cross.

One part caught my attention. He talked about "Lazarus being put on trial after being resurrected from death" and later "The pastor who died of SARS".

He said that he himself did not have an answer when non-Christians asked him. "Where is your God? I thought Your God is supposed to protect you Christians?"

In times like these, a "wishy washy" - "It must be in the Will of God" isn't exactly good enough to convince most believers. True. I felt my faith fall a little after I read that news. I felt upset that God just let one of his workers die just like that when he's trying to do the Lord's work, leaving two young children behind.

Then Rev. Goh carried on to say that one of his pastor friends had a word from God which I cannot really explain here. It just won't come out of it. But my soul has been seemingly satisfied by the word from God.

Rev. Goh concluded to us that we need not be afraid of death as Jesus has destroyed the power of death that satan once held over our lives. He concluded to say that SARS stood for Serving A Risen Saviour.

I realised that over time, its not the church that you go to or even how good a sermon is or how great the preacher is. It just boils down to the fact whether you do believe what your pastor says and actually act on his sermon! Its great to be motivated by men of God with great charisma, but at the end of the day, the energy comes from within. The desire to follow God must be inner as it cannot be forced.

testimonial

As usual, with regards to previous year, there was an emotional, life changing testimonial. It was by this former MGS girl from the class of 86 (That's a long time ago!) about her initially be very passionate for God, then later falling away for almost 8 years into a gay lifestyle.

Before anything started, she sang a song Stubborn Love for us to listen to and while others took a "toilet break".

So this former MGS girl just talked and shared her testimony about her life is a lesbian, feeling how good it was to be experiencing an "alternative lifestyle" and marching on the Mardi Gras gay parade in Boston and New York. How it was like being in a lesbian relationship and the like.

Her testimonial was quite long, probably almost 50 minutes, and I listened to every minute of it intensely about how she described her double life, a life of lies, living a lie, being deceived by satan and so on. In addition, she talked about how she lived as a lesbian, but yet at the same time could not openly declare it to her parents and friends back in Singapore as they all thought "she was actively serving in a church".

Overall, it was a very honest and moving testimony which ended when she felt that God had set her free one day when she cried out to Him. She shared that even though she had been living a terribly sinful life, God had completely forgiven her and had accepted her as part of His family.

Her parting shot? "I'm a Child of God! That makes me a Princess!"

I really need to get a recorder. Never know when I might need to use it for such as this. Her testimonial ended with an altar call for all those struggling with "such tendencies" as well as those who had not received Christ as their Savior.

All I can say is that God is Great and God is truly so Good. His forgiveness is unimaginably incredible! Yet doesn't mean I'll go and sin as much as I want.

ending

There was a period of prayer for those who answered the altar call as well as gentle worship. Then it went into full blown praise. Last year, this was the part I enjoyed the most as everyone was totally really experiencing their freedom to praise God in any possible way they pleased.

Last year, I had the pleasure of having Charmaine standing next to me while we both praised and worshipped the Lord and this year it was Aunty Ros! Hahaha! I felt like a little kid doing all those "silly actions" to a song I didn't know how to sing. But who cares right? Its between me and God! And God isn't going to laugh anytime soon at "my folly"!

I met up with Geoffrey (Jeffrey - I have been spelling his name wrongly consistently) in the front seat of the hall! He has prelims and he is more interested in God than studying an revising for his prelims! Now that's truly dedication and a Heart for God. He's really sacrificing time to honour his King above all other priorities.

Praise just went out of the roof. I felt like I was in church - seriously. Just that everyone was in white and blue!

Praise ended with Aunty Ros giving us a word from God telling us to pray for each other. Somehow, I ended up with Geoffrey and Aunty Ros and she prayed for us.

I received a word from God from Auntry Ros. She was telling me that God wanted me to be devoted to "Listening and Learning" and to "use my free time in Coast Guard to seek Him and to delve deeper into His Word". I certainly will!

Then she prayed for Geoffrey where she spoke a word from God to him as well. Prayer ended with Rev. Goh telling us a word from God. He said that God wanted us to love others with the love He had placed within us and that when we love, God will give us more love in which to love other people with. God doesn't want us to without our love from other people but to love others even more.

Its a little harder to accep this word since I don't love people very much. I make no emotional connections with people but I'll try my best. Must pray lots over this issue.

fellowship

Then it was over and fellowship started. Auntry Ros introduced us to Rev. Goh and Rev. Goh prayed for us and later offered to send us a CD of something he had prepared called "Journey to Holiness". Now isn't God really good to give me such stuff just like that? Rev. Goh told me it was like an audio sermon on mp3s, whilst we could flip through powerpoint slides for the message. That's really kind of him!

Then I met my drum teacher who happened to be a friend of Aunty Ros as well! He was so happy to see me even though I've not seen him for 9 months already!

Other notable people that Geoffrey pointed out to me later was the fact that half the band were apparently current EX-CO members of CF in ACJC! My goodness! I can't even recognise them! Lau Kui man! Then later Geoffrey pointed out this particular girl to me. Some Lynette or something I think , apparently, she's Rev. Dr. Norman Wong's daughter!

Rev. Dr. Norman Wong was the president of the 1st student'c council in ACJC. He's the president of the TRAC churches of the Methodist Church in Singapore. Basically, he's the 2nd highest ranking leader of the 35 000 member Methodist Church in Singapore. The 1st being Bishop Dr. Rober Solomon, who is also president of the National Council of Churches.

Everyone's either a CF EX-CO member, son/daughter of some pastor, some divinity/theolggy student, some song leader, some musician or someone totally fired up for Jesus.

I tell you. I never fel so small. Geoffrey and I really felt like even though we really loved God so much. It was really nothing much to the relation these people were serving Him.

In the end, almost everyone left quickly and we were the only 2 guys left in the hall. Now, 2 ACS guys on MGS territory. That's a scary thought! Everyone else was staring at us wondering "what are these 2 crazy guys up to?".

home

Then we decided to run off quick. Geoffrey got his mom to send me back to Holland V.

I rode in the Commissioner of Police's Car! WOAH!
