Listening to Steve Gadd - Love for Sale (The Buddy Rich Tribute)

reflections

When I just read past on my previous posts. Even for those a few days ago, I realise how stupid sounding I am! I realise how much nonsense sans crap I actually type into my blog! My goodness! I think I really have to make a conscious effort to write with a more matured pen that has an evenly balanced outlook.

My expression in the form of writing is still rather poor. Makes me regret and wish that I had done ARTS in AC instead of crummy science! Maths is good, but too much maths just makes you weird/crazy/psycho. Wonder how messed up my mind will become should I chose to major in mathematics in the university! I have to balance it somehow, somewhere!

sad

I'm still feeling sore for having purposefully skipped church yesterday. I could still have rushed down and gatecrashed the entire thing. But I didn't. I chose to watch it online via an interrupted Net broadcast. I feel so regretful that I've missed a major move of God. =( Sad

Even LLW, who didn't have tickets for the conference crashed twice successfully! Well, because of this, I pledge that in future, tickets or no tickets, I'm going to go for every single conference that church organises! No more hiding behind pathetic thin excuses of inconvienience.

I can't become a good christian if I'm always giving excuses. It's not the way to grow up into a real matured man with a decent personality and good character. I have to change... Really have to change.

bored

Sentry duty today was unimaginably boring. At first, I started quite being quite gung ho about the whole shit job. But there was limited manpower. Its so true - the other SC's hate sentry duty SO MUCH that they are willing to take an MC to get pass it.

Worst, we had to do spot checks on every single visitor's vehicle. With only 4 men to do a job meant for 8 people, I didn't have the priviledge of just doing 6 hours worth of duty. Instead, I had to do all 12 at one shot. However, my guard commander, was nice enough to give me an hour's worth of free time in the changing room. The changing room's a great place to rest since its air-conditioned. Furthermore, its very quiet and peaceful there during the day, so you can get 40 winks worth of sleep.

Yet, you can't really sleep since the other smoker's in the team just come in to "breathe fresh air". They basically smoke in an air-conditioned room. I don't smoke and I can't take the horrible smell of cigarettes. But I can't say anything since I'm just an NSmen. Have no choice but to give way to all these regulars! Smoking is banned in the base, but no one cares except the commander! Everyone just smokes and smokes and smokes.

I think I've smoked like a few hundred cigarettes in my life. Passively. All thanks to the entire crew set minus me lighting up in the tiny cabin of the boat all at one go! I can't go anywhere since the cigarette smokes is circulated throughout the entire boat. And on the deck, I get nothing but diesel fumes - which induce this desire to vomit in me.

terrible

Sentry duty's not just opening and closing the mobile barrier or just checking vehicles. We have to manage traffic outside the base. Record down every visitor's details. Issue visitors with a security pass. Manage the ultra-limited parking lots in the base, keep tabs on the boats on the jetty and record the entry and exit of ever vehicle. That's alot of work even for 4 people.

Worst, there's this CPG Laboratories inside the base. I don't understand how come they have to build such a stupid building inside the base. It adds to visitor traffic and compromises safety. There are always so many contractors with their heavy lorries and trucks entering the super tiny base and because they totally can't even move inside - create a gigantic traffic jam.

The base also only has one way of entry and exit. So the traffic flow must be managed. There are always so many meetings in the base and with tonnes of super-ultra-impatient senior officers that keep horning at us whenever the truck in front of their car isn't moving!

I can't really describe how busy the job is. Its so busy and so dull and so boring. And everyone is just waiting for you to screw up so they can charge you for negligence. Given a better day, I'll write a nice extended essay on how horrible sentry duty is and why every NSmen HATES its to the core.

Imagine managing parking lots? We have to receive calls from all these people who want to BOOK parking lots in the base - all because they are SO CHEAPSKATE to pay parking at the national stadium which is just 100m away! And with the super limited amount of lots, we just end up receiving lots of complains about our "inefficiency" to provide a parking lots for their worthelss japanese cars!

Then there is the stupid water sports association next door. We have to watch the visitors over that side for any "suspicious looking characters". We also have to chase away vehicles parked outside the sports center - in case its a car bomb. There are so many EXTRAs just walking in and out so they can borrow our dragonboats - another security risk

Worst, cars don't come one by one. They come twenty at one shot! And with each vehicle, we have to verify the driver's identities, do a spot check, exchange their i/c for a security pass, get them to a parking lot, record down their particulars, record down their vehicle number, direct traffic and make sure we're fast enough so that exiting vehicles won't have to wait so long! How can? So much work per vehicle and they want us to be fast and yet keep up security and socld us for being slow.

Then there the extras who don't book parking lots and just try their luck to come inside. When there's a queue of 10 vehicles waiting to enter and the first one wants to reverse on a one lane road. You can just imagine how much trouble that is. Then we have to be temporary traffic wardens. Stress.

Plus, we have to salute all those people ranked SI and above. There are like 100 of them in the base alone! Each one waiting to complain and charge you if you don't salute them. It only takes a phonecall or an email to get us screwed.

Tell me, I'm sure they really don't appreciate us doing this job. We get scolded for nothing and all these senior officers are forever making life diffcult for us. That's why I don't respect them. They don't deserve salutes in my opinion.

They built the base in a really really bad location. It is so bad and with so many security loopholes, it is just a blast waiting to happen. =( Sad to say. Disgruntled guards are the fastest way to destruction.

sad

Haven't been feeling very happy as of late. Sentry duty really gets you down and makes you feel damn sad. Worst, I missed a life changing event in church!

All that can cheer me up is that I'm up for a night shift patrol with SI Norman again tomorrow. If everything goes right, I'll be cruising past clifford pier again and I get to see the CITY.
