Listening to Hillsongs - All the Heavens
The rotten base has put me on permanent sentry duty for the next seven months. Why then bother to go to police academy and train. Why then bother to go to the police coast guard training school to train if they only want a dirt cheap CISCO guard to direct traffic and issue security passes and help book parking lots?
Seriously, coast guard has a track reputation of deploying the wrong people into the wrong vocations. They send diploma holders who show much promise in navigation to become technicians. They put A level holders as traffic wardens. ITE grads fare no better being rope splicers and help in tying ropes. Like one of the guys in the base put it.
"Why bother even training in Police Academy since I only end up being a transport driver and a person to refuels boats? The warrant card is worthless."
And guess what is the logic in employing NSmen such vocations who are certainly so much more hardworking than most of the regular counterparts out at sea?
"We can't afford to pay so much for a sentry".
And they can bother to pay a police sergeant 1800 a month just to fill in a couple sheets of paper. They can pay a regular corporal 1600 a month just to help recharge batteries used in our walkie-talkies. Wonderful. We ought to shoot this to the commissioner to see what he makes of it.
The truth is that NO REGULAR wants the job. So they just "play rank" and leverage on their status as "a regular" to leave us with no choice. All the unwanted jobs go to NSmen. Same with the army, isn't it?
Don't forget. One police boat can buy 110 police cars. Is the coast guard poor? Certainly not. Ludicriously stupid dodgy replies and excuses. Typical of replies of various gahmen organisations in the Forum page of the papers.
NSmen work harder than regulars, get paid less and suffer more. We ought to get J.B Jeyaretnam and Chee Soon Juan into parliament to heckle the Powers That Be. Honestly, I think parliament sittings are completely and absolutely farcical. I can't belive the amount of nonsensical lies they actually spout in parliament. Just refer to the "White Horse Issue". Perhaps JBJ and CSJ were right to say that "we had no worker's rights" in this country.
The base claims that "sentries are the most important and vital part of the base, securing our safety". Well, all I can say is that, a disgruntled sentry is as good as NO SENTRY. Just note the high absenteeism rates when people get put on sentry duty. They seriously think that all NSmen are stupid fools that will swallow every word that they say.
Ah well, I belive that most of the guys in army have an axe to grind, sharpen and polish with the SAF. And all the police NSmen have one to grind with the SPF. Really, one day, all these so-called "senior officers" with half past six run of the mill "degrees' ought to take our place and just see how tough our job is as compared to their's.
And they say that "sitting in an office for 9 hours a day is stressful enough".
