weird day

warning signs

I turned on my computer at about 7.20 this evening, expecting to be blogging and living my online life for a about 3 hours today. I had a great shock when I saw the "black screen of death" - that windows had not started successfully. I selected the option to have windows start normally, leading to a half an hour scandisk check. I hate scandisk. It wastes time and it useless! Besides, it makes the systme very unstable when it is running.

I don't mind having my whole computer crash. I dont mind reinstalling the stuff - its a good way to get rid of all kinds of spyware and stuff on the computer - just that I lose many many hours of work and effort. Up to now since I've bought the new hard disk, I've not been active in backing up my data.

This comes as a serious warning to me that my system may finally be in its "dying days" before it gets "reborn" again.

I hate windows. I think I'm going to go to Linus in future. Believe me, linux will be the death of windows. It can do everything and BETTER, no worries about virus, extremely efficient and extremely stable. Long live the penguin!

record

There were record absentees today. Many of the guys who were totally turned off by the whole raft business and a whole day worth of drills just decided to take MC today to keng. I can't blame them, I was almost on the verge of doing so as well. I just decided against my better sense to drag myself to Brani today. I hate all the marching. I just don't understand why people would love such a useless activity.

Surprisingly, drill wasn't that bad, not only did it start late, but there were many breaks as well. Our squad formation was absolutely pathetic, but nevertheless, the rehearsals went very smoothly.

Lunch too was much better than average. Its always like this - upon enlistment and passing out, the food's good, at all other times, it SUCKS!

raft

The afternoon was at Kallang. We were told earlier that the raft we were building was not for our squad, but for the office hours people in Kallang. All our efforts and money are going into a raft that is not for us! What kind of shit is this? They make us work for no credit! So damn unfair! This really killed alot of the squad people's mood to build it.

I wanted to sabo the raft. I was the main "engineer" - overlooking how everything should be tied together. I know where best to sabo the raft so that those good for nothings who sit in an aircon room all day and can't tie ropes for nuts will at least experience a "dismemberment" when they were out at sea.

Later I learnt that our squad could build the raft, pilot it and do all we wanted with it, just that the points achieved would not be ours, but channeled to the office hours losers group. So I decided not to be evil. After all, many of the others had the same idea as well.

Building the raft on the "good news" gave us a little better morale. It was fun readjusting the design after having tested it once by throwing the entire thing into the sea. The entire thing floated very well and it was exceptionally stable. The rest of the day was spent reinforcing stability, adding creative stuff onto the raft and making it look more impressive.

good stuff

The head training of coast guard, some idiotic DSP, came down to Brani after drill today to talk "friend friend" with us. He's full of shit seriously, has a big time attitute problem and thinks he's just so great just because he's a DSP. He came to talk to us about marching well and all kinds of other shit which he digressed very far from.

The only smart move he made was to listen to all our complaints and grievances about the whole course. Mr Kadir raised the issue of wearing our corporal ranks during the passing out parade as well as the issue of our allowance and requesting that we be reimbursed for the nonsense we have to pay for.

Neverless, the usual diplomatic response, "I look into it". I doubt anything will come out of his "looking".

posting

I've been posted to Kallang! I'm quite happy with it. Rahmat, Badang, LLW and Shahrul got Kallang - all were from my room in Tracom so that's a really good sign. Kadir was posted to Technical Command, but we'll be seeing him too since its inside Kallang Base. Poh Yong got miserable radio room. Wei Loong, Atek and Nico were posted to Seletar - so it'll be harder to see the comp geeks now. Sigh. I just hope I get office hours, even though patrol duty is fine with me.

See how things go. Thank God that LLW is in the same base as me. I have this weird feeling we're going to end up on the same boat. It'll be good too - we can go to church together as well as bible study.

noelle

I saw Noelle again today. Yes, her clothes are as funky as ever and she just looks as in fashion as ever. I checked her blog over the weekend and realised that she's been updating after a really long time.

Saw many AC people in orchard and Holland V today. Strange - when I don't see any AC people on one day, I really don't see any. When I see some AC people - I see a huge number!

Managed to get a glimpse of this super cute AC girl running towards the 77 I just alighted when I dropped off at Holland V. It looked alot like that ARTS CHICK - Zhi Mei! COULD IT BE??????

icq

It seems that ICQ has been affected by the crash. It has great difficulty connecting and when it does, it can't display the "usual online people". I think I need to reinstall. Other than that, everything looks fine. =)
