Listening to Frank Sinatra - Chicago
I have to learn to write better. My sentence structure, phrasing, grammar, tense and language is TERRIBLE! I knew I should have done ARTS in ACJC! Now I'll have to go to the crappy british council to brush up on "Queen's Standard English". The ability to write well is a very valuable asset indeed. Now if only I good repeat my performance in Chinese...
Night shift yesterday was quite good. A good crew set, a 3rd Gen boat, and the 'honor' to do patrol with SI Norman once again. This time, I came prepared with a sleeping bag, so that I need not freeze in the cabin, unlike previously! There was only one "exciting spot check" in the form of another rickety Indon Trade Craft in the rain. Because of the wet weather, I had to wear the police rain coat.
The police rain coat in Tracom is HOT enough. But the Coast Guard's rain coat can double up as a winter trench coat! It is designed to be used in heavy rain and strong wind. It is SO warm that upon wearing it, I start to sweat almost instantly. I think they just took a regular firemen's suit and put the words "police" on the back of the thing.
Well, I got to visit the CITY at night again! So far, I've always been doing night patrols with SI Norman. No day patrol as of yet. Although there is life in the CITY late at night, around 10 to 11. It doesn't beat visiting the CITY in the day, when it is so much livelier. Nevertheless, its cooler at night and one can see the Fullerton Hotel, in its full lit up glory from a nice viewing distance.
In the morning, once again, SI Norman went alongside the clifford pier jetty. I jumped across to head to get us breakfast as well as the morning papers. Quite surprised that a terrorist leader, as given by Singapore Intelligence, is only jailed 4 years for "involvement" in the JI. "Not enough evidence"? I bet the judges either got bribed or threatened. Besides, a 4 year jail sentence in Indonesia is nothing. You can simply "buy your freedom" there by transferring a few million rupiah to the guard's coffers. 1000 bucks is already 5 million rupiah. 1 million rupiah is enough to bribe an army regiment in Indonesia, so with 5 million, you could do practically anything you wanted.
I received word from my admissions officer that I am unable to secure a place in New York University. I'm quite sad actually because I've set my heart on going there, living the CITY lifestyle, and living in the BIG APPLE. Its like the place where a quitter like me would go and live in.
The only good news is that I've managed to gain admission into the University of Washington in St Louis. Its the 12th best university in America, just slightly outside the ivy league universities. Good academics, but really, if I go to NYU, I can attend Rev. Dr. A.R. Bernard's Church - the Christian Cultural Centre. In UWSTL, I can't even think of a suitable church! Why grow academically and suffer spiritually?
Unless I'm crazy enough to drive 4 hours every sunday from Iowa all the way to Brooklyn, NEW YORK CITY to go to church! I hope things can still work out in my favour later on. God please help me go to NYU!
But if I really end up in UWSTL, I might consider majoring in Biology, despite having no prior exposure to bio. UWSTL has the 2nd best undergraduate biology program in America, its just behind Harvard University in the course's rankings.
Oh ya, I found out that a great way to bring up that "jazzy" dryness in your mp3s, is to set your graphic equaliser to that of "heavy metal". That really ampllifies the dry "chick" in jazz, as well as broaden the harmonics for the double bass. Winamp rocks.
I have to exercise more. My ten fingers are doing more work than my two legs.
