I wok up at 5a.m today! And I only slept at about 12 plus yesterday! Shiok man! It feels good to "extend" one's day with lesser sleep. I realised only at about 6 plus when washing my face that I had not prepared my clothes for today and when I checked my cupboard, I had none! Thank God that my maid managed to wash the uniform from the jetty jump, minus the ironing. Quickly I asked her to give me a cheapo iron job to remove the creases. Unlike in Tracom, during uniform inspections at Coast Guard, they don't expect a perfectly nice set of uniforms, just a satisfactory standard.
The great Founder of Methodism, John Wesley once calculated exactly how much sleep he needed, so as to maximise his time. Truly, time is precious. Freedom time is even more precious.
Today was at Brani again. Dad dropped me off at about 7.16, so I missed the 7.14 bus. We always get stuck along the road leading to Crescent Girl's School! Its like there's always a jam there caused by parents sending their daughters to school in the morning. Its just that its on a smaller scale, unlike the SCGS, ACS BARKER combined schools' jam every morning along dunearn road, esp when the two school's were side by side! Oh yay, I also get to pass by Jeri's school everyday... just that I don't get to see her. What a sad bastard I am pining for a girl that I don't even know! =( My stupid heart is so foolish sometimes!
"Romeo! Romeo! Whereworth art thou?"
I ought to paraphrase it,
"Jeri, Jeri! where the hell are you?!" -smirks-
I had breakfast with Liang Wei and Wei Loong later at the BNB Cafe (Brani Naval Base), the food's really dirt cheap. 60 cents for a plate of fried rice! Its not the best, but it does a great job of satisfying my morning hunger since I don't eat breakfast at home. Today, we did nothing much again. SSgt Thomas just spent the WHOLE morning revising yesterday's stuff and he gave us a test of 10 questions. Each wrong answer had a penalty of pushups. I didn't pay attention so I ended up doing 6. Haha, some of the jokers just went up and did twenty without answering any questions.
I spent most of the class time reading the February issue of Teens. I took the magazine from the magazine rack at the back of class and kept it in my locker, so that NO ONE will take it from me in the morning! Just being Kiasu as usual when it comes to magazines. I think Teens is a rather good and relevant magazine for youth today. Since I'm like 19, and THEORETICALLY still considered a teenager, except for all the BGR issues, fashion stuff and music, the Aunt Carey section is really the most interesting part, with the "True Life" accounts coming in for seconds. Ah Teck was telling me yesterday how he didn't like BoA for her "kimchi face", he's a funny guy. Perhaps he can't stand it that a Korean is more popular in Japan than his idol, Ayumi Hamasaki.
SSgt Thomas ended the morning class with a whole slew of dirty jokes as well as racist ones. He even asked some of the class to come up and share some stupid, sick or racist jokes, of which quite a few complied. I honestly think SSgt Thomas should be employed by the MOE as a lecturer to lecture JC guys and girls about SEX in a PROPER manner. My, he can really joke but yet put a serious message across about sex. I think he really really knows TOO MUCH. He talks about everything from contraceptives to masturbation to calculating a girl's period cycle and certain "techniques". Mr Kadir can learn alot from him. Kadir is after all, the squad's sex guru. But SSgt Thomas is a GRANDMASTER!
Lunch was particularly bad. At first when I saw it, I though it would be spaghetti, just that it came in a container without any sauce on it. I thought the sauce was on the way and then when I opened the food tray. It was lontong from breakfast! The spaghetti was all broken up, very dry, had rubber like consistency and just tasted plain horrible. Wei Loong hated it so much he gave me his chicken (I'm always eating Chicken!) and went to buy some food from the cafe.
The whole squad was going to have PDP, Police Day Parade in the afternoon, so there were no classes. We had liberty to slack! I just went up to class (classroom is on the forth storey) and tried to sleep on my table. It was too noisy, so it was just restless rest. SSgt Tan then drove the transport bus in from the Kallang Regional Base to Brani to pick us up and drop us off at Tracom.
PDP is probably the most hated activity amongst the whole squad. 3 whole hours under the burning hot sun doing drill with instructors screaming and yelling at every mistake you make. Its not like standing to sedia (attention) is fun, its just damn tiring and robs you of all your energy. Once we had a rollcall like a week before we passed out and we stood in sedia for 1 whole hour. My feet were really sore after that, so were my knees. So one can just imagine 3 whole hours of drills with a strict deputy chief drill instructor taking charge! My whole squad hates, despises, detest, demeans, dislikes to the very core the whole idea of the PDP. It really really sucks! You start shagged and end up with painful ankles, knees, arm joints, leg joints and back ache. Its not nice at all. Plus, you feel thirsty, tired and mentally stressed.
They say that Drills do build discipline, that's to a certain extent, other than that, certain people who are "psychomotor morons" just like die during drill sessions. And the whole squad gets it just because of that one guy. I happen to be one of those! I really suck at drill! Can't give command, can't march, can't march on the spot whilst staying on the SPOT, can't swing my arms nicely without moving my shoulders and I can't really stand straight for very long, cos my back muscles aren't so strong.
Thank God. I got kicked out of the contingent! Its more of a blessing than a humiliation because my whole squad understands one thing: Alwyn's marching SUCKS! I'm not ashamed of it. I just suck! Kadir often gives me tips on how to improve, but his efforts have all but in vain. Well, at least he tried. I'm just now a reserve during PDP, but i can be called up at anytime to make up for any lack in any of the other contingents (There are 10 in all). So that still kinda sucks!
Luckily today I was just an extra sitting on the benches at the side of the parade, being able to go to the canteen, sports shop, toilet as and when I wanted to and I don't need to march in Tracom anymore! =) Passing out really rules! Can't wait for the Coast Guard Passing out Parade!
I bought this Name Tag/Security Pass holder at the sports shop. The guy in the shop gave me a 50 cents discount on account that Ragu had brought us there. I bought the holder/hoister because Suhaimi just reported to OC today that he had lost his pass yesterday after the bus journey out of Brani. OC asked him to be more careful in future. OC also told us that he would try to get some extra holders so that those whose holders had a tendency of breaking need not be so frustrated with their holsters anymore. The regulars advised me to get this type of holster since it was less likely to drop my security pass and came with a "bungee cord" which allowed the card to be pulled from the wearer for a closer inspection. It would then move back into place when released.
We managed to meet our old F.I (Field Instructor) SSgt Mohd Noor, known affectionately as "Mat Noor". He is the most respected and powerful instructor in Tracom. He's very nice guy, doesn't tekan us and prefers to relate to us as friends rather than trainees. He tries to know every member of his squad individually and then often cracks jokes with us. He doesn't do much training with us, but rather, we use our own initiative to learn stuff from the seniors. He doesn't do much, but yet receives the envy of other instructors who often wonder why their own squads don't perform just as well as Mat Noor's. I really respect the guy. He's one instructor I will never forget.
I got to see the Legendary Sri Kanthan! And the Legendary Ong Boon Chye! Both carry the rank of SSI(2), Senior Station Inspector Level 2. It is the highest non-officer rank any junior police officer can receive. In a division, he can command up to 50 men at one go. He is only superseded in terms of power of an ASP, or Assistant Superintendent of Police. Can you imagine a 54 year old man with a 10 pack and can run 2.4 in like 8 minutes? He's like superman! Ong Boon Chye is the Chief Drill Instructor with 2 complete rows of ribbons! No one I have seen has that many number of ribbons to form 2 complete rows! Event the Commissioner of Police is short of one!
I took the bus home with Edmund, mum picked me up from Serene Centre bus stop. Not too bad a day, just that I took about an hour and 15 minutes to do my blog today. All thanks to ICQing with Wei Loong and Shu Yin.
I gave Shu Yin my blog URL today. I think her perception of me will totally change. Just by peering into my honest entries, anyone can read the thought of my mind, the inclinations of my heart, the war between my spirit and my soul and the confusion, depression, emotions that I live through.
