Back at Brani

I managed to sleep at at about 1.30 last night and wake up at about 6 today. Good thing its the holidays, if not I'll be like so dead tired when I get up at 5.30. I'm really happy to go back to Brani today for classes. I love that place. The sun the sand the sea, the fresh air, the sea view and the view of Sentosa's golf courses - almost a place of paradise to study.

Today topic was radar, under the module of "Navigation". Our Navigation teacher is SSgt Poh. He is a big slacker. Not only that, when he walks into class I feel like falling asleep. In addition, today, it rained heavily in Brani - The perfect setting to doze of and sleep. I need not say that I did not have enough sleep last night. I soon fell asleep only to be woken up by SSgt Poh who dubbed me a "mechanical failure". He was teaching on the disadvantages of the radar system at that time. The whole class laughed at me.

I think I didn't give him a good impression of myself, not only for falling asleep in class, but also for forgetting to pack my seamanship manual to class. I guess I'll just have to make it up to him by trying to score highest in the exam once again.

The gunnery exam today was another easy paper. I did not really study for it. The time they gave us for self study was spent sleeping in class. I think I only made like less than 5 mistakes - good enough to pass with above average grades. The examiner was supposed to come at 9, but he ended up coming at almost 10 - so much for efficiency.

Lunch was a disaster again. The vegetable were definitely rotten. One taste of the mushroom revealed it to be very sour. The chicken too was giving out this stale smell. The day ended with physical training, only which this time it was up to me how much training I wanted to do. Since I had to go for the Youth Conference later, I decided only to only run from one end of the jetty to the other and back again.

Don't get me wrong, the jetty is nearly 600m long at least. So that made a combined total distance of 1.2 km. Thereafter training, we were allowed to go home by taking the 5.45 shuttle bus back to the World Trade Centre.

The Journey

Liangwei and I were pondering on the means of transport: Bus 61 to Buona Vista, Train to Boon Lay then 242; 97 to Jurong East Interchange, Train to Boon Lay then 242; bus 30 to Boon Lay, bus 85 to Boon Lay. Just then, Johari told us we could take Express 507 to Boon Lay interchange. Just as he told us that, the bus arrive. Quickly, we thanked him and left.

The journey overall was fast because many bus stops were skipped, just that when the bus came towards Jurong East, the bus made a HUGE round throughout the entire estate that cost us a precious 20 minutes. Upon arrival Boon Lay, we made a dangerous dash across the roads of the interchange just so that we could squeeze into Bus 179 that would take us to Church a little faster than bus 242.

Edmund SMSed on the bus to say that he couldn't find his discman, I had borrowed it from him earlier today. I called him to check that I had returned it to him properly. Can't imagine that I cannot even remember stuff like this. Edmund confirmed that I had returned his discman to him, only to have him lose it later. Poor guy. Hope he doesn't blame me for it.

We reached church at about 7.10 and made a mad dash for the lobby to get our temperature tested. All these other church people were running too but HaHa - Policemen can run WAY faster than all of them. I can't run for long distances, but over short ones, my bursts of speed is usually enough to beat lots of people. Heh!

We had our temperature taken and tried to take the Staircase down to B4, but the usher stopped us (They are always stopping us EVERYWHERE!). She told us to go up to Level 4 - the overflow room. So reluctantly we left for level 4. When I reached the overflow room, it was almost empty save 8 or 9 people. I was damn angry, so I punched my own palm and told Liangwei we just missed it.

Immediately, I unleashed my mind's creative power to the maximum - We could smoke the usher with a distraction and sneak down via another entrance. So once again, all our police tactics and some commando distraction tactics were employed. We ran downstairs, hurriedly pushing away people who were trying to enter the overflow room. Liangwei and I snuck quietly at the back of church and used some "creative tactics" to smoke the usher's attention in a different direction. We immediately opened the door just enough to let each of us enter.

Then we dashed down really quickly. My heart was racing as I ran down the stairs.

We arrived at Basement 4 - the main hall and were almost stopped by security, but somehow, some usher happened to be carrying three chairs through the door and sot he security had to make way for him. I bet God sent that guy to "make space" for us as we made a very quick dash into the main sanctuary. I've realised that sometimes, you just have to force your way to get things done, no point always obeying all the rules and regulations.

The hall was TERRIBLY crowded again. An usher asked us if we needed seat. I tell you, these ushers are UTTERLY USELESS! UTTERLY! I asked for 2 and she just gave me a pathetic reply to "just sit on the floor". I will NEVER take No for an answer especially in church. I will fight my way to get it done MY WAY. I don't think that this is pride or violence manifest in me, just dogged determination.

Merf saw me and said he would give up his seat for me. I told him that I will only sit on the chair if my buddy has a chair to seat on. Liangwei later managed to get a seat and requested that I take it. I refused. Just as we were about to make a fuss about who was to take the seat, Merf pointed out to me that there were two seats behind the cellgroup that had just been given up.

There was this whole bunch of girls sitting with their knees far far out, blocking my way. I was so pissed I shouted at them a very loud "EXCUSE ME!". Stupid girls. When I think about it again, I think I should have been more polite, but who knows, someone might take the seats during that time. Those girls were shocked and immediately let way. When it comes to seats, I have no choice but to be aggressive if not EVERYONE will step on my face.

Merf told me that they had queued 2 hours to get their seats and Liangwei told me that someone sent him an SMS to say that someone had fainted while queuing for seats. Singaporean mentality so kiasu must queue so early. Liangwei and i were very happy.

God is good. We had done something not thought off: 1 Usher told us to go upstairs, we forced our way DOWNSTAIRS, 1 asked us to seat on the floor, We fought till we got 2 seats in a good place. Thank God, we come so late and yet still end up in this privileged position.

Youth Conference - Day 2, Service 6, City Harvest Church

The praise was very good, but not as good as yesterday. Worship was very good, much better than yesterday. I remember asking God for "one more praise song" after the 3rd one was sung. In a sense I was a little disappointed that the musicians went on the worship music, but I think God answered my prayers shortly after as Pastor requested the musicians play one more praise song after worship was done. =D

The majority of the service was a mini concert held my Pastor Sun, followed by a "talk show" where she shared how about how God made her dreams come true and stuff. Pastor only preached for 5 solid minutes.

Ex 2: The rod in Moses hand was used by God to split the Red Sea and bring freedom to 3 million people. Pastor said that no matter how small our talents and abilities are, God can use us mightily. We might just be a "stick" - almost useless and worthless, but it is through us, weak people with little that God chooses to do his mighty work with.

Pastor called on us to commit ourselves to serve God with whatever talents and abilities we had, no matter how small. Pastor told us that God will only use us if our hands are clean and our hearts are clean. That is, we are only going to serve God for His glory and not ours and that we lead a pure and sanctified life.

The service ended in intense prayer that God would use us in anyway He wanted us to use us for His Glory.
