Summary of the last four days (excluding monday)
Saturday
OC told us that there was a change in program, so we would lose our afternoon. Basically, they wasted time on the weekdays, put all the untaught stuff on saturday and burnt up our afternoon. Many people were very upset that their plans had been thrown off track. Another thing I hate about NS, very very very very poor planning and administration. Civil Service College is a massive failure at this topic
We were taken out to sea, all the way till the end of Singapore's Port limits at Pulau Sudong. The island had been closed for live firing but nevertheless, I was taught how to fire a flare gun the proper way. Later, we were given a demonstration of a Man Overboard situation and how to react to it. After that Towing of a boat was demonstrated to us. The work day ended with the process of dropping and recovering anchor. It was a very long tiring day indeed. But thank God that the weather was fantastic. No sun shining through and no rain. I think I would have just baked if the sun shone through - weather's been terribly hot these few weeks.
I had dinner with my family at this Hainanese restaurant - Kilinney Kopitiam at Purvis Street. It is an authentic Hainanese restaurant serving authentic hainanese cuisine. They mixed up my orders, so instead of seafood hor fun I ended up with seafood fried rice. My dad later found out that the owner was an old friend of his. Dad bought ba zhang for our breakfast over the week and we were 2 free after ordering 8.
Overall, it is a cheap and reasonably priced restaurant with good authentic food. I like the place. I ran away from cellgroup today, told merf that I was going to have an attachment. Perhaps an "attachment" of sorts - one that finished in the afternoon and not tomorrow. Honestly did not feel like going for cellgroup meeting today.
Sunday
I woke up late today, another day of complete refreshment, since yesterday there was no attachment till this morning. I dressed casual to church today. No long sleeves, black shoes and tie and belt. I am honestly sick of the whole thing.
Is it necessary to dress very well to show to God that I treat Him with reverence or is it legalistic? I am honestly divided here.
It was Church's Vision Weekend, basically Pastor sharing with the church what God has been telling him about the direction the church should take. Basically, just reach out to the youth, discipleship and then I don't know what else. Besides, Pastor revealed to us officially that we are now a 15 000 member church and how the whole media issue with Pastor Sun's crossover project went from their perspective. I got to watch a video on how the whole thing unfolded and stuff.
The best thing is that yesterday, my Dad's friend, the one who owned the restaurant, said that the man who charged Pastor Sun with using church funds for the crossover project is just a big hypocrite. Perhaps, but I think everyone deserves a chance to redeem himself eventually. I think we should not judge people too harshly, nobody's perfect and everyone will make mistakes. Its just a matter of acceptance and moving on. But its not easy either.
Mum called me and asked me to go home early for dinner. So basically i had to leave the church with only Alice, I broke off from her at Jurong Point. I had not eaten lunch, so just bought myself two cheap buns to munch on the train on the way home. Dad told me that we were going to Hotel Rendevous with the extended family for Nasi Padang. The food was just ok, not fantatastic though.
Mum later had a crazy idea of taking us all to that Hainanese kopitiam that we went to yesterday. We went there, had some toast, boiled eggs and iced milos and left. I was just so full.
Tuesday
The morning was spent on weapons training: The ARWEN 37 (Anti Riot Weapon ENfield 37 mm calibre). Nothing much I guess, just that I couldn't aim properly through the sights that the manufacturer guarantees a 100% hit percentage at 20m range. its is supposed to be a non-lethal weapon, but it can kill within the range of 40m. How ironical indeed.
The afternoon was spend at the Indoor Stadium for the final Police Day Parade practice. The PDP day would be held in the evening at 7. I was reserve and this time I did not have to march. So I just spent the time dreaming of her. I miss her like crazy. The contingent commander was being a big bastard, nonbody liked him. He just asked everyone to shut up when we are trying to solve problems.
Really, his rank is ASP (Another Stupid Policeman), probably a degree holder, looks like a big time nerd with thick glasses and a scrawny body. He probably couldn't find a job, so he had to sign on the the Force. Perhaps he was such a loser that he ended up as our contingent commander. Cannot make it man that guy. Good thing we won't see that jerk anymore. Total bitch.
As I was reserve and the thing started late, best of all, we had no seats since all the seats had been reserved for spectators. The reserves and one of our very much nicer reserver contingent leaders locked ourselves in a stuffy storeroom in the indoor stadium. Most of the time was spent with out Inspector, taking pictures and talking. Everyone was just cursing and swearing at the NS system and how notoriously inefficient it was.
I did not button my shirt properly, went to toilet and was wondering why everyone was just staring at me. I had left the top button unbuttonned since it was very hot inside the storeroom. Only after I realised my mistake, that I realised that I had passed 1 Inspector, 2 ASPs, 1 DSP. Sigh. Hope they didn't catch my name. Or I'll just be dead.
We later got seats at a condemned corner of the indoor stadium, carried up all our squad mates stuff 5 levels and watched the show. It went well after all the practise I'd say. The president was there, so there was an atmosphere of "grandness" indeed. Managed to see Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Noor (not to be confused with my F.I), who is commanding officer of the Special Operations Command. His No. 1 attire looks really grand, with his rank insignia sticking up half a cm above the shoulder.
I took the bus in the wrong direction home with Nico, lucky, we realised our mistake after 5 minutes, so we got off and caught the bus in the other direction, eventually meeting up with some of the other guys who boarded the bus at the SIS. I only reached home at about 10 plus, cooked my own maggie mee (dinner was at 4 plus) and then went to do a powerpoint presentation of what I had learnt on saturday's unexpected sortie.
I slept late, almost 1 a.m
Today
Was so tired in the morning. just came into class to sleep till time to fall in.
Had weapons training with SSgt Zulkilfi again. The lesson was very fun, with lots of dirty jokes and stupid things being done. I was caught reading the papers in class, but was not scolded. just laughed at for "insulting" the lesson. Nico was later caught reading Computer Times, worst being Johari - polishing boots during classtime.
I had the opportunity to handle the MP5 A4 gun. It is really fantastic! Now I know why it is the preferred gun of special forces worldwide. So light, easy to shoot, accurate and easy to mantain. I was taught how to strip the weapon, aim, cock and fire the thing.
The whole day was just dedicated to teh MP5. Except later in the afternoon, we had to run. all the way to the esplanade and back. At first I thought that I had forgotten to bring along my PT Kit, but luckily, I actually remembered to pack it last night. Thank God.
I ran for about 3.6 km before giving in. SSgt Zulkilfi was upset that I did not inform him of my previous medical history - heart problem. I told him that I had been cured, but he said that he did not wish to take any chances. He doesn't scold me, he told me that he respects "smart guys" - like those A levels holders doing their NS. He told me that I should either be a minister or a superintendent of police. Funny, I don't even know him and he's telling me to be that.
If i go all out for God and sacrifice EVERYTHING, I'll probably end up as a pastor, but if I chose to go the "standard path" I'll probably be a policeman. A senior police officer at the helm. I told him that I would go to NYU to study and he was very impressed. Perhaps I should have declared to him that I used to have heart problem, but then again I wanted to run - run all the way until I cannot run and then just stop.
Funny how come those who cannot run want to run and those who can run don't want to run.
I went for Merf's gig at Cineleisure, he was performing as part of the Step Out Singapore campaign. All I can say is that his band sounded very good indeed. I just hope they reach superstardom someday. =)
I had duck rice for dinner... at a cheap hawker center outside my house. After dining at all the "upper class" eateries during my stint in ACJC, I nearly forgot that next to the air con food court, there was still a cheap hawker center serving good food. I reached home to find out that mom had kept some curry chicken for me. A pleasant surprise indeed.
See how life goes tomorrow. I'm really tired now.
