ACJC vs RJC Police Cup Rugby Finals 2004

We lost to RJC. Sigh.

Its very sad. ACS loses the B division as well as the A division title, after holding it for 3 straight years. Looks like the raffles' investment of 1.5 million bucks to restore their honour and glory has finally paid off.

ACJC played their best. They played their hearts out. They played like it was the match of their life. And they only deserve a standing ovation. They did their best. They worked so hard to upkeep what was painfully bought before them, at the same time, it was not enough.

The ending today parrallels exactly what I saw one year ago. A free kick awarded to rjc. Last year they missed and we cheered like crazy.

This year, it actually went in. And we were devasted. It was a very sad day. You see grown men shed tears of sadness. For all the effort that they have put in that has not come to pass.

A heavy blow indeed on the AC Spirit. Today is a day we mourn the loss of a coveted trophy title that has sat inside the trophy cabinet for more than a thousand days and has symbolically encouraged generations of ACSians.

If last year's feeling was absolute euphoria. This year it was absolute devastation. I don't know what to make of it. The people crying. The student councillors quietly sobbing. And a general atmosphere of unhappiness in the field.

ACJC fought to the best of their ability. For this I salute their efforts and determination and unwavering spirit of never-say-die. They fought till the end until circumstances were beyond their control.

The match wasn't violent, or a contact sport. It was brutal. It was very tough for them. I cannot imagine physically fit people showing signs of exhausion on the field. That is how much effort they put into the game.

At the same time, whatever it is, the BEST IS YET TO BE. This certainly hasn't been our ultimate best showing yet. So I am very sure that in exactly one year's time, half the rugby team that played today will be pining for recompense.

"Don't cry! When you lose don't cry! If you lose! You lose like a real man! You don't cry! You don't show it! You don't give the other team something to laugh about! Chin up! Be Strong! You played your best today! You have made everyone proud of you. You did your best! And look all around you. Look at everyone clapping and cheering for you. You have made them proud! The Best is Yet to Be!" -Dr Irwin Seet
