I'm Working... I'm Working!
I'm Working... I'm Working!
I'm working during my chinese new year this year! Argh! Stupid rotten base policy! Yet on the flip side of the coin, I know that I'll be on duty with the best patrol team in the whole Police Coast Guard. So that's a great consolation. I hope that God'll give us good sunny weather on my working day(s) and that I'll have the opportunity to take some good pictures.
The weather's been pretty good lately, in terms of photography. Other than that, I still think that it is TOO HOT. And the waves have not been kind to us lately. Quite violent and choppy. Other than that, its strange to note that my class guys have started to clear leave and will be free men shortly after chinese new year or a month down the road. While I look at my leave balance sheet and lament that at the very most I can only get off about 6 days earlier than expected. I can't believe I go in earlier than most other people. And yet I still come out later.
Nevertheless, I look forward to being a free man within the realm of about 10 weeks? And then I will go swimming everyday. Thereafter, maybe do plenty of picture taking for my personal benefit as well to build a suitable portfolio of images. I can almost imagine driving in the car out at 5a.m in the morning, just so that I can reach some seculded part of Singapore to catch the first glint of sunrise in the morning. Then having a good rest... some street photography in the afternoon, followed by pictures of the sunset at some other location (obviously!) and then followed by a series of long exposures to be made at night.
Its creativity that counts. And as far as "Post-ORD" activities go. It'll be good to help out at Church more actively. Perhaps do some social work or volunteer work and just have a peek at "the other side" that is slanted away from the glaring publicity of the country unless it is for reasons of artificiality. Perhaps some writings and musings, as well as some deep reading to put my brain back into first-gear-second-gear-move-off mode in preparations for university. It will be busy and I fully expect the time to past faster than normal (since I'm "enjoying it" by right). And I do hope that my dad will really buy me my dream camera for my 21st. Otherwise, I would be utterly and sorely dissapointed.
Israel... ah... lovely country. As well as that rugby match. Where I want to see the Red, Blue and Gold lift up, hoist that trophy that rightfully belongs in the display case in the Most Nonsense College In The Country. There is much to be done and to be covered. As well as a great deal of a finishing off process that I have to go through when I hit 21. Can't believe I've grown up so fast. A boy into a man? Let's hope that my mind will mature itself into a better eventuality, not too far long down the winding road of life. While there are many things that bother me right now. I'll just leave it to God. In any case, while I work onboard the boat - guarding our shores as usual. I hope that everyone has a good time in an Island in the Sun for themselves to just rest, relax and recharge themselves. He Xin Nian, Zu Xin Nian! Happy Chinese New Year!
(All pictures taken on St. John's Island on a day with perfect weather and lighting. Pictures have been very minimally edited.)
The remains of a demolished jetty. This is basically the supporting structure for the boardwalk. In the background is Lazarus Island.
The beach on St. John's. Opened to the public in 1975, the island used to be a penal colony for prisoners as well as a quarantine center for early immigrants in the 1930s.
Benches for picnics under numerous coconut trees by the beach. If you want to stay over at St. John's for the night, one must request for permission from Sentosa Development Corp. Although, I wouldn't recommend camping overnight.
My personal favourite picture in the series. Sunset glow on St. John's Island. The jetty in the background is closed to human access.
