Reminiscient Times

We should all take time out to watch the particular movies. Perhaps to just reserve judgement on it first, and then to reflect upon it later on. As a person who almost never goes to the cinema, yet loves to watch shows, usually on DVD approximately two years after they have been released. I've enjoyed almost every film I've watched this year thus far. So without further adue, if you have the opportunity to do so do catch
- Elizabethtown
- Brokeback Mountain
- Rent
- The Constant Gardener
- Crash
- Underworld Evolution
- 8mm
- Narnia
- Memoirs of a Geisha
Across the list, it varies from fantasy, historical and cultural representations, cultural differentiation as well as perhaps dealing with some of the more difficult, challenging-to-confront or else sticky issues society at large faces. Not just in Singapore - in many places. Some movies are good to watch for their charm, and the idealisms that surround it all - such as Elizabethtown and Rent. Others, force us to question our humanity - shows like 8mm, Crash and The Constant Gardener. Local, Racial and across borders. Others are fantasy - Narnia being the tame end and Underworld:Evolution being on the more thriller/horror/violent side of things. Elizabethtown and Memoirs of a Geisha are unique in that they represent cultural diversity and historical references, albeit with many distortions and errors at times. But let's not be too picky. Let's just "enjoy" the show for what it is.
Perhaps possibly the most disturbing show thus far would be Brokeback Mountain. Perhaps what is even more disturbing would be how it has been nominated and in some cases has already won critical acclaim and garnered a large amount of rewards. I guess the issues as thrown up in the film seem to boil down towards a clash between secular society as well as the ethical considerations of such complexities usually influenced by means, but not always, religion. Other factors probably would be the "openess" of society as well as the relative moral culture of such issues. I don't know. Yet, I'd say it would be wise to watch it and make up your own opinions thereafter. Can't deny that it is a good film, yet "good" is subjective. I can't really subscribe to the values therein at times. Oh well. Complexities. It is indeed difficult to write a blog that steers clear of politics, philosophy and economics. Such are the grounding foundations of the elder society we inherit with the passing discourse of time.
Oh well. Its been interesting. Recommend me some films if possible.
