Consider For A Moment

Sometimes in life, it is good to embark on a period of deep self reflection, perhaps taking several hours, days... maybe even months.. before making decisions that will influence the course of our lives. Many a times, it is indeed admirable to hear the stories of those who have gone forth ahead of us from a times past, and who have lived to tell the story of making the best decisions of their lives. There are many decisions in life we make that we'll most probably and most likely regret. Other than that, at least, there should be a few that you should never, never mess up.
Perhaps at times, our decision making abilities are not so much influenced by what we want or what we desire most - evidently, such choices are clear in most cases, until they are complicated by externalities and the ethical, moral and social quandary of thought that might come along in vain attempts of being highly intellectual. It is interesting that moral discourse and the thoughts of the great philosophers from ages past continue to shape our world today, set certain standards in understanding, exemplify benchmarks or else, are used to justify given sets of believes that proclaim the need and necessity of secularity and being politically correct at most times.
Yet so indeed, it is with a hindsight of thought, that few, perhaps even none, turn to the great philosophers during the time in which life matters most. During the time when superficialities fade away, when consciences are restored and when life seems to have taken on a different purpose altogether - if only it would haul itself out of the rut it is in, and relive its existence in extension. Perhaps that search for a meaning and for a purpose of life will eventually lead us to that one place. Yet at times, I marvel when everything is complicated by well... everything. There is so much confusion in what to believe, what to accept, what to revel in and where one stands in part; judged by the premise of civil society and cooler expectations. Going with the flow is easy, all to easy. Besides, no one wants to stick out, yet some blame themselves and others for an inherent herd mentality in decision making process.
If only we as humans can think things out, can reason them perfectly and moralise issues such that they are justifiable to all - yet we know that this is not possible. Not at all. Because someone else sets the standard. Someone else sets the benchmark Something that we should all strive and adhere to in the completeness of life itself. At times, I do wonder if what I do is part of that purpose, or its just an irrational waste of time and money and energy. Even then, I'm confused by my own personal philosophy when it comes to tacky and sticky issues. Still not to bad. The worst that no one seems to agree on what the proper philosophy is, was, can be, could be or should be or might have been. Its crazy. That is why, for some moment in time, I will stop doing, once again, the very thing I enjoyed for a moment in time.
Almost parrallels what I wrote here a year ago. But this time its a sabbatical. To do other things, to prevent the all consuming passion from consuming myself and everything in it. Burning up is not a good thing after all. Certain things have to be developed and stoked. Yet in all cases, a proper and healthy sense of moderation is wise too, even under extreme circumstances. How oxymoronic is that statement. Like driving down the PIE in the dead of the night. Perhaps sometimes, everyone should rent a car and speed down route 1, ending in Key West for real peace. Perhaps after that long drive is over, one will be better inclined to know what decisions seem right to take. But of course, check with Someone first. =)
