I really wish Alfian would get on the blogger blogspot.com bandwidth to contribute to the galaxy his tome of useless, irrelevant, extremely dumb and laughably funny articles like this. Mojo Jojo all the way! Yeah! Somehow, that article seems to strike a chord with me as I noddingly agree to everything that is written there.

The weekend flew me by really really quickly. If this keeps up, I'll be racing towards my ORD date in no time. Funny how on one hand I am really looking forward to it, yet at the same time I wish I could continue to enjoy the free and easy lifestyle that I get during my off days right now. Stranger this is that even though I get more off days as I work in shifts, the funny thing is that I hardly ever step out of my house, prefering to spend my time away in front of the tele else PC.

Just two days back, I was pleasantly suprised to flip open the New Paper to see it report on the rescue of ten men that had abandoned ship after their vessel caught fire. They were, after all, rescued by the team that I belong to in the Police Coast Guard. Uncle Yeo is featured there as being the overseer of the rescue operations. I'm looking forward to leaving my current station duties at the rotten base and heading out to the great big blue span of sea come this thursday.

The base might be rotten and its management an utter complete absolute disaster, but my working team of ground officers that does the actual dirty and dangerous work just rules big time. Yet I have to concede that coast guard was once the dumping ground in the police force, it has only received its so-called 'vindication' by the local press lately owing to the various threats that international trade faces from pirates and terrorists in the straits of malacca and johor as well as Singapore.

It might be tough working out at sea, having to constantly compensate for my balance due to stormy seas, as well as handle ropes that come with enormous amounts of tension. Technically I have to be really careful when tying up the boats together as one wrong slip and I could end up with my fingers crushed. Besides, the deck is slippery from all the engine all and everytime I step out of the boat in high seas, I head back into the cabin to find a nice layer of salt all over my uniform. But then again, its all worth it if at the end of the day lives are saved and property is protected. I'm just really looking forward to this Thursday, where I'll return to full time patrol duties out at sea. Many times better than being stuck in the base doing land duties under a useless management full of policemen that have too much time for political backstabbing. Going patrol is the best, because everyone's like a family together.

As I was working on Sunday, I ended up in church for service on a saturday evening and it was really good. I realise that more and more people that I know are being just so committed to God. Its like, the people I know in church are actively invovled in serving in ministry as well as reaching out to the unsaved and the like. In addition, many of them are planning to go for mission trips over the next few months. That is something that I would definitely want to do, yet I can't because I don't have enough days off from my gross total leave as well as the tremendous hassle it is just to leave Singapore to head overseas during NS. I'll wait till I ORD and before I head to uni, I really hope that God too will give me directions to help out in a few mission trips abroad. Till, then, I'll just be content with hearing testimonials after testimonials from those out in the harvest field.

And to top off the weekend, as I was on duty at base yesterday. It too, was coincidentially the full dress rehearsal for the National Day Parade. The best thing was that I had my camera with me and I managed to get a few nice shots of the flag being flown past by three Chinook Helicopters. Most of my team mates working on station duties at the base were also treated to a preview of the Commando Free Fall as well as the flyover display of a few air force planes.

All this, with a really nice sunset. I guess its one of those better days in national service. While I don't know how long I can keep up blogging and accompanying my posts with pictures, as far as possible, I'll do my best, knowing that this gives me an excuse to take more photographs just purely for fun. In the meantime, I'll live each day one at the time and savour the little pleasures of life in order to stay positive.
